Greetings, all Pagoda Writers!!
We realize it has been a quiet period this summer since our last communications about Linda's passing and taking a summer hiatus. We have more news to share about our team member, CJ Rhoads, whose mother fell unexpectedly ill in May and passed away a few weeks ago. We send our heartfelt sorrow for her devastating loss, and our love and support while she heals.
Additionally, we will delay any formal life celebration for Linda Thomas until our team can regroup again. But, please do join us to spend some time during our next meeting, sharing thoughts, memories and conversation about our dear friend.
After taking a much-needed summer hiatus we will be returning to our 2026-27 monthly meeting schedule. The format is changing to alternating months of speakers and writing exercises. Our mission has always been to balance the tips and information shared by speakers with practical exercises to enhance our own writing skills. But we learned in the past year that our enthusiastic interaction with speakers left very little time for the writing portion of our agenda. We are Pagoda Writers, after all, and while we no longer meet in the Pagoda our home is still the hometown of the Pagoda! And we are Writers (or, at least, writing enthusiasts)! So, let's learn and practice our writing skills - together!
Join us next weekend at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education (3000 Penn Ave, West Lawn, PA 19609) on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Use the far right entrance and look for us in Art Studio 2. This month, former speaker and now ardent member, John Symborski, will lead the group in writing exercises based on proven rules for writing, as developed by well-known 19th and 20th century writers, including Margaret Atwood, George Orwell, Joyce Carol Oates, and more.
This will begin our alternating series, followed by a speaker in October, a new writing skills lesson in November, a speaker in December, and so on. Stay tuned for details on our website when we are able to continue posting regular updates again. As usual, bring your notepads, creative ideas and questions! Please take a moment now to send a quick reply email and let us know if you plan to come, even if you’re a “maybe.” Immediately following our monthly meetings, we will continue our lunch "de-briefing" and social time near the institute and we would love for you to join us for some lively discussion and casual camaraderie 😊
